Exclusive: Kelpe – The Blankout Agreement (Slugabed mix)
Apr 25th
Some weeks ago, I went to Berlin to visit the transmediale festival with friends. They also have a own night-line called club transmediale, which by the way has become more interesting than the “normal” art festival. But that may be connected to the fact, that I live in Linz, which hosts the Ars Electronica Festival, the most prestigious festival for electronic art worldwide. Although when it comes to the night-line, the Ars could also learn some things from the ctm
Anyway, back to the music: One band really got my attention, it was the British act Kelpe. Their style falls into the young genre wonky, which I heard of before, but didn’t impress me very much. Until I saw about 800 people going crazy in the WMF club to some of the finest, most innovative music I heard in the last years! Kel McKeown was working with his machines, while Chris Walmsley was playing the live drums. The show was full of energy, and ranks high in my all time top 10 concert list!
And it turns out, Kel is a nice guy as well! I wrote him an email asking for my most favorite track, which I played about 30 times on his myspace page, and he sent it to me.
Okay, now its time for you to listen to the first wonky track on dancendancen.com, a Kelpe remix by Slugabed!

This track stands out for many different reasons: It has many fresh sounds, the rhythm is very unique, and when the bassline kicks in at 0:45, I get a hard one, no shit. I can listen to it over and over again, and I still have the feeling that I found a the sacred land of Shangri_La.
Kelpe is the leading force in wonky at the moment, and he sets the bar very high. Please support this great great artists:
